SDLFF 2004 is proud to announce the following workshops and seminars for local independent filmmakers interested in gaining hands-on and first-hand experience in art of film and video production. These workshops are presented to you in partnership with the Association of Independent Video & Filmmakers and the National Association of Latino Independent Producers.

"Producing for Television"

Learn the ins and outs of producing for television from this seasoned panel of industry professionals. What is involved in taking a project from concept to completion? What are the secrets of assembling a dream team? Are great producers born or made? Guest speakers: Gregory Nava (Selena, El Norte, American Family), Barbara Martinez-Jitner (American Family), and Carlos Portugal (Producer, Galan Entertainment).

"Financing the Independent Feature Film"

Find out what it takes to get an independent feature financed in the real world in this valuable workshop. Getting a film made is only half the battle. Now you have to get it seen. Learn how to enter the marketplace and be noticed by distributors. This informative workshop will address mastering simple grass-roots techniques and understanding how major distribution companies think. Guest speakers: Julio Noriega (Venevision International - Todo el Poder, La Ley de Herodes), and Ivette Rodriguez (American Entertainment Marketing - Y tu Mama Tambien, Real Women Have Curves, Havana Nights. "Selling your Screenplay"

So you’ve written your masterpiece and nobody’s knocking down your door to get it. In this workshop, a panel of successful screenwriters will discuss makes a script sellable, when it’s time to get an agent and how a writer be commercially viable and still maintain artistic integrity. Guest speakers: Paz Alicia Garciadiego (Deep Crimson, El Coronel no Tiene Quien le Escriba), and Danny Mora (actor - Dharma & Greg, George Lopez & screenwriter - Laverne and Shirley, SitCom Bootcamp).
