The very best of Latino documentary and feature films once again comes to Otay Ranch Town Center for the 2012 “¡Que Viva! Cine Latino” Film Festival. As in years past, the festival is free and will showcase some of the most critically acclaimed Latino productions from the past 12 months, including Academy-Award Nominated “A Better Life,” “Precious Knowledge,” “Anita” and “Habanastation.”

As an added bonus, guests will be treated to pre-screening entertainment each week, featuring an assortment of live local Latino musical groups. ¡Que Viva! Cine Latino screenings takes place every Wednesday in September starting at 6:30 p.m. (September 5, 12, 19, 26) in the Food Pavilion at Otay Ranch Town Center.

¡Que Viva! Cine Latino Schedule and Descriptions:

Habanastation (September 5): Mayito is a young boy whose wealthy father showers him with the latest Playstation games. When Mayito gets lost during the May Day Celebration, he finds himself in a poorer neighborhood outside Havana. He soon discovers the simple joys that other children have without the latest electronic games and TV shows. This joyous coming-of-age film is perfect for children and parents alike.

Anita (September 12): Anita is a young Argentine woman with Down Syndrome from the Jewish community in Buenos Aires. When a prearranged meeting with her mother goes awry, Anita gets lost in the city while looking for her. In this heartwarming story, Anita learns to care for herself while simultaneously touching the lives of others.

Precious Knowledge (September 19): Disenfranchised high school seniors become academic warriors and community leaders in Tucson, Arizona’s embattled Ethnic Studies classes while state lawmakers attempt to eliminate the program. This brilliant and thought-provoking film won Best Documentary at the San Diego Latino Film Festival in 2011.A special introduction and Q/A by filmmaker Eren McGinnis!
Come early at 6:30pm and witness the incredible talents of Omo Ache!

A Better Life (September 26): In this moving drama, a gardner in East Los Angeles named Carlos (Oscar nominee Demian Bichir) struggles to keep his son away from gangs and immigration agents while trying to give his son the opportunities he never had.Arrive early and enjoy the music of guitarist Pablo Cantua!
