Once again our annual Jewish Latino Film showcase is coming back to San Diego featuring film favorites from the recent Latino Film Festival. San Diego Latino Film Festival brings the best of Jewish Latino films to San Diego County from May 2012 to July 2012. The Jewish Latino Film Series is a four- month celebration of films by Jewish Latino filmmakers and about the Jewish Latino experience. There will be one screening of each film at 7:00PM, May 30, June 6, June 27 and July 11.

Films to be presented include past festival favorites:

“My First Wedding / Mi Primera Boda” 6PM (RECEPTION)
on Wednesday May 30, 2012 at Cinepolis Del Mar
12905 El Camino Real, San Diego, CA ( *$29, $25 for members, includes reception)

Jewish-born but now secular Adrian (Daniel Hendler) and Catholic-born but now quasi-secular Leonora (Natalia Oreiro) have finally reached their wedding day. Instead of embracing matrimony, Adrian spends the hours leading up to the ceremony trying to avoid disaster. Hilarity ensures in director Ariel Winograd’s winning romantic comedy about the politics of the proverbial “Big Day.”

“Salsa Tel Aviv”
on Wednesday June 6, 2012 at AMC Otay Ranch 12 Theater
2015 Birch Road, Chula Vista, CA

Vicki (Angelica Vale), a Mexican salsa dancer and single mother, flies to Israel dressed as a nun to follow her boyfriend. On the plane she meets Yoni (Angel Bonani), a young Israeli scientist on his way back home from a research trip. During the long flight, a strange and amusing friendship develops in this charming romantic comedy from Israel.

“Anita”
on Wednesday June 27, 2012, at Edwards Cinema San Marcos
1180 West San Marcos, 92069

This heart-warming film tells the story of a young woman with Downs syndrome (Alejandra Manzo) who lives a happy, routine life in Buenos Aires where she is meticulously cared for by her mother Dora (Academy Award-nominee Norma Aleandro). One tragic morning in 1994, everything changes when Anita is left alone, confused, and helpless after the nearby Argentine Israelite Mutual Association is bombed. As Anita wanders the city, she learns not only to care for herself but touches the lives of those around her.

“Dos Hermanos”
on Wednesday July 11, 2012, at Museum of Photographic Arts
1649 El Prado, 92101

Marcos and Susana, both in their sixties, are brothers and sister. Their lifestyles and temperments are completely different, but they feel obligated to mend their tatterted relationship due to the death of their mother. When Susana sells the flat in chich Marcos shared with their mother before her death, he is forced to move to a small Uruguayan bathing resort. Here, the two siblings must rediscover their family bond and start living again.

General admission for all films are $12 (* with the exception of Cinepolis Del Mar) and for Members $10.
