6:00 pm Set in contemporary Cuba, this Almodovaresque black comedy tells the story of two ordinary people who meet at a movie premiere and adopt glamorous new identities in order to impress each other. Will beautiful "starlet" Sissy find out that handsome Jorge Luis is not the hot new director he claims to be? Will true romance bloom for this mismatched pair? What will their spouses say? Outrageous and exuberant, "Adorables Mentiras" is a celebration of dreams, desires and the sometimes dangerously thin line between who we are and who we would like to be. Starring Isabel Santos, Luis Alberto García, Mirtha Ibarra, Thais Valdés. For mature audiences.
8:00 pm Another film from the director of Adorables Mentiras (also screening this year), this riotous farce is a tribute to the Tropicana, the legendary Havana nightclub that was a favorite of Hollywood's elite, musicians and international playboys. This film is a quietly layered satire that goes down with the sweetness of a mojito. But alongside the broad humor and the musical numbers, Chijona always brandishes a sharp wit, serving up observations about politics, class and racism with a light touch. Some characters want to leave the Tropicana, others are dying to get in. But it is here that they lose their identity, tangle with love, triumph over adversity. For mature audiences. Sunday, March 11th
