The annual San Diego Latino Film Festival is once again honored to highlight the latest and best of Cuban Cinema. This Cine Cubano sidebar celebrates the latest feature film by award-winning Afro-Cuban filmmaker, Rigoberto Lopez Pego. Rigoberto's last film, Yo Soy del Son a la Salsa, was a huge hit at the 2003 San Diego Latino Film Festival.

Set in Cuba at the beginning of the 19th century, Roble de Olor tells a story inspired by the lives of Cornelio Souchay, a German merchant recently arrived on the island, and Ursula Lambert, a freed Black slave from Haiti. Despite being from such different cultures, and the social and racial barriers that separate them, a strong attraction arises, and thus a tale of love challenges the taboos and power structures of their time. BIOFILMOGRAFIA

La Habana, Cuba, 1947. Licenciado en Ciencias Políticas. Su filmografía abarca más de una veintena de obras principalmente como documentalista, entre ellas se destacan: Granada, el despegue de un sueño (1983), África: círculo del infierno y El viaje más largo (1987). Fue productor y director de una de las más notables cintas de su carrera, Yo soy, del son a la salsa (1996), Primer Premio Coral en el Festival de La Habana. Se desempeñó como corresponsal de guerra en Etiopía y Angola. Colabora en publicaciones especializadas y ha dictado cursos y talleres tanto en Cuba como en el extranjero. Participa en SDLFF 2004 con su primer largometraje Roble de olor (2003)
