Art manifests itself in the film industry in many forms from set design to computer animation. Media Arts Center San Diego recognizes the undeniable importance of art in film and the constant influence of technology on the visual arts. ¡ARTE LATINO! is the second art exhibition to be held in conjunction with the annual Latino film festival. The exhibition aims to promote artwork that focus on Latinos and/or about the Latino experience. Also, MACSD hopes to exhibit innovative artwork that demonstrates the ongoing evolution of digital artwork.
Media Arts Center San Diego (MACSD) seeks entries for first annual juried exhibition to be held in six San Diego galleries in conjunction with the Twelfth Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival (March 10-20, 2005). The competition is open to painters, photographers, and digital artists. MACSD aims for this to be a successful event through the cooperative effort of the galleries, artists and the film festival.

SDLFF 2005 Exhibition

Each selected Arte Latino artist will be assigned to one gallery and display ten pieces of work at that art space. In addition, each artist will have work displayed at the SDLFF screening location (Mann Theatres in Hazard Center), the SDLFF 2005 official festival program and SDLFF 2005 web page. Last year there was over 17,000 attendees, which included international filmmakers, actors, programmer, distributors, industry representatives, journalists and actively engaged film lovers from San Diego, Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles County.

Selection Committee

David Avalos (Artist/Instructor), Robert Sanchez (Artist/Instructor) and Lupita Shahbazi (Artist/Instructor).

Judging

Selection Committee will select five artists. The exhibition will be selected through slides and jpeg images, thus the quality of the images will be critical. The selection committee, however, reserves the right to omit work upon receipt if it is inconsistent in quality with the projected image, is poorly framed, or has otherwise been misrepresented.
