Arte Latino Exhibit
May 14-June 10th at Madstone Theaters Hazard Center The 2004 Cinema en Tu Idioma film series is proud to bring you the work of two excellent Latino artists as part of the new "Arte Latino" component of the series. We believe that the filmgoing experience should be enjoyed long after you leave the theater. To that end we invite you to come in early and enjoy the art, have some coffee or Chai, or linger after the films and take in the Festival atmosphere and scenery that the art provides. Arte Latino began as part of the monthly Cine Mexicano series in 2003, and will continue in 2004. The Arte Latino series has showcased the work of such artists as Jorge MacFarland, Alma Lopez, Bill Olivas, Carmen Kalo, Jose Ramirez, Nuvia Guerra, Ricardo Islas, Bob Rob Medina, David Collazo, Gerardo, Yolanda Romero and Perry Vasquez and Victor Payan (Keep on Crossin©). Cipriano R. Pozos In 1998, Pozos co-created a series of silk screen designs for MIXtlan Art & Wear clothing company with his brother. His work is recognized as cultural and passionate. A big history enthusiast, Pozos work is inspired by Mesoamerican civilizations, folkloric heroes and the unknown heroes of the Mexican Revolution. He said his own life experience and culture is often reflected in his work, which he describes as sometimes intense. Through my work I can educate people about my Mexican roots and bring back to life an era in time, Cipriano said. He lived in East Los Angeles for over 20 years, where he worked as a welder and where he also continued with his art. He has been in San Diego for over 10 years. His work has been in exhibit at Art Walk, Culture & Art 2002 in Springfield College, Tijuana en Terciopelo as well as community cultural events and festivals. He has donated his time for a mural in City Heights in the Bookman Library. His work is being collected and is recognized by many as uninfluenced and unique. A native of Tepatitlan, Jalisco Mexico, Cipriano was raised in the small border town of Calexico two hours east of San Diego. That is where he attended elementary and high school. But Pozos talents were recognized long before that. When he was just 5 years old Pozos mother and brothers and sister recognized he had a special gift. Cipriano's creative outlets do not stop on the canvas, aside from his art work, he sculpts, writes poetry and plays guitar. |
