Inspired by a true story, Radio Favela is an uplifting and musically-charged story about a pirate radio station in Bello Horizante, Brazil’s third largest city. Serving as a voice of the people, Jorge and his friends confront the issues of the day: police brutality, a racist educational system, corrupt politicians, poverty and the lure of crime as a career path for the youth. Needless to say, this draws the attention of local officials who are set on busting Jorge and shutting down the station. Jorge’s sassy anti-establishment sound bites and a soundtrack featuring great Brazilian hip hop, soul and funk make this film a winner.

For mature audiences.
